Obituary for Lloyd R. Porterfield

Lloyd R. Porterfield
Lloyd R. Porterfield D.C.
February 16, 1944 – April 07, 2018

Lloyd R Porterfield, D.C, 74, a lifelong Wenatchee Valley resident, went to be with the Lord on Saturday night, April 7, 2018, at Central Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born on February 16, 1944, in Wenatchee, WA, to Delbert and Mildred (Patrick) Porterfield. Lloyd was raised in East Wenatchee, WA, and attended Eastmont High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, track, and baseball, and was the proud quarterback of the 1961 State Championship team. He graduated with the class of 1962, and over the last few years, enjoyed his coffee club meetings with his Eastmont classmates to reminisce and chat. Lloyd attended Wenatchee Valley College prior to going to work at Alcoa, where he became the youngest foreman. He then left Alcoa and attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA, graduating in 1973, and returning to East Wenatchee to open his practice. He continued to practice for 40 years, loving every moment of what he did and those he helped, including caring for his parents during their final years.

He was married to Miriam “Mert” Rusch on April 18, 1980, in East Wenatchee, blending a family of six, and making their home in East Wenatchee for the next 38 years.
Lloyd was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in East Wenatchee. He will be most remembered as a passionate people person with a caring heart and always ready to tell a quick (or not so quick) joke. Spending time with his family and friends was Lloyd’s most prized activity; he especially loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Miriam Porterfield; his children: Brent (Erica) Porterfield and Tamra Gavin (Michael Chandler) of East Wenatchee, WA, Joshua Porterfield (Elizabeth Young) of Port Angeles, WA, and Erica (Tory)Wulf of Brewster, WA; his grandchildren: Jaxson and Quintin Porterfield, Alex and Drew Gavin, and Anah, Brady and Paige Wulf. Lloyd is also survived by his brother, Roy (Margie) Porterfield of East Wenatchee, WA, his niece, Cindy Gilbreth and nephew, Rick (Julie) Porterfield. Also his other “daughter,” Sherri (Dennis) Sharp and her children: Wyatt Hetterle and Owynn Sharp and his other “sons”: Chad Gavin and Jon (Jenel) Hetterle, children Jenesis and Adalyne. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1050 Eastmont Ave., East Wenatchee, WA. You are invited to visit his online tribute at www.HeritageMemorialChapel.com and leave a memory. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee, WA.
